What is Hypnobirthing?

  • A Hypnobirthing course is a unique type of birth preparation programme which includes a game changing tool called hypnosis (see below for an overview of hypnosis)

  • The principles behind Hypnobirthing are straightforward, evidence-based and logical

  • It offers a way to free yourself from any fears associated with birth; shifting your birth mindset from negative to positive, reaching a point where you are looking forward to the birth your baby

  • The opportunity to build a practical toolkit to help you access a state of relaxation during pregnancy and labour

  • A variety of techniques to reduce pain and make you feel more comfortable during labour

  • Providing a wealth of knowledge so you feel equipped to navigate labour, whatever happens on the day

Emily radiates positive energy and a quiet inner strength . She has a gift for helping people feel relaxed and confident in their own abilities.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is simply a state of deep relaxation with focussed attention. We ALL experience this on a daily basis in those moments just before nodding off to sleep. It’s also experienced when you’re ‘in flow’ - this often happens when you engage in hobbies where you lose all sense of time and awareness of anything outside of what you’re doing. You are fully in the moment. Some examples you may be familiar with are being captivated by a book that you just cant put down or being absorbed in an engaging film.

Hypnosis is self-led, meaning that YOU are the one that holds all of the power. Its something you can choose to engage in or not. I, as a hypnobirthing teacher can guide you into a state of hypnosis but you decide whether to take that journey or not.

In a hypnobirthing course, hypnosis is used to access the deeper layers of your mind to release fears associated with giving birth, and to replace these with more positive beliefs about birth. This is a vital part of preparing for birth, as fear is not our friend when it comes to labour.

Emily changed my whole outlook on hypnobirthing. I’d always kind of thought of it as nothing more than a ‘nice birth’ and Emily’s extensive knowledge, passion and her own experience has taught me that it’s so much more than that. I can’t imagine going through such an incredibly emotionally and physically critical time without her support.

myth busting:

  • As a Hypnobirthing teacher I cannot take control over your mind, YOU always hold the power (I most certainly can’t make you dance like a chicken as you may have seen on TV)

  • Hypnosis is not for a specific kind of person, its for everyone (see more on this below)

Hypnobirthing is not a TYPE of birth, it’s a powerful birth preparation course that will benefit you no matter what your plans and circumstances are

  • It is not the same as sleep - sleep and hypnosis have different brainwave patterns

Who is hypnobirthing for?

I am passionate about ensuring that my Hypnobirthing courses are for EVERYONE - this includes you, birth partners! Every expectant parent will benefit from engaging in my Hypnobirthing course, whether you are:

  • Choosing to give birth in hospital (including in an operating theatre), a birthing centre or at home.

  • Hoping to have a water birth

  • Having a caesarean birth, have been told you’re “at risk” or would like to be prepared for an induction

  • Planning to have a natural birth or would like to have medicated pain relief

What are the Benefits of hypnobirthing?

  • Unborn babies respond beautifully to the relaxation and breathing practices, giving you opportunities to bond with your baby before they are even born

  • A gentle pregnancy and birth promotes optimal foetal development

  • A more comfortable, less painful experience of labour

  • Research has shown those who engaged with hypnobirthing had shorter labours

  • Reduced reliance on medication

  • Lower chance of requiring intervention (e.g. induction, instrumental delivery, unplanned caesarean birth)

  • Improved post-partum recovery

  • Enhanced perceptions of giving birth

 FAQs

  • My course integrates the unique and transformative tool of hypnosis, with unbiased simple-to-understand information about birth and your options, as well as providing you with many practical techniques to reduce pain during labour. You will leave the course feeling calm, confident and capable to birth your baby. I believe you absolutely deserve to have the best birth possible, whatever that looks like for you; this is at the heart of all my courses.

  • Birth partners have an extremely important role to play during labour. Many birth partners are unsure about what is required of them and it can leave them feeling like a spare part or worse, aimlessly scrolling through social media whilst mum is in labour. My course provides birth partners with important knowledge and practical tools to support mum. Birth partners should not underestimate the difference they can make during labour.

  • Giving birth to your baby is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, with the opportunity to be one of the most powerful, empowered and transformative days of your life.

Sure, its important to buy the essentials for baby - the car seat, the next-to-me-crib, nappies and sleepsuits; but in my opinion being prepared for your birth is also a non-negotiable essential.

  • I am passionate about supporting women to approach birth with optimism, not fear; with confidence, not doubt; and feeling powerFULL not powerLESS. I believe that birth can be a positive experience, and I am here to help you to do exactly that. I will guide you through a fully transformative and immersive experience that will change your whole perspective on birth, and dare I say it - leave you feeling excited to birth your baby.

  • The ideal time to begin the course is between 20 and 30 weeks of pregnancy. The more time you have to practice the techniques and use the decision-making tools, the better.

However, please don’t worry if you are beyond this point in pregnancy, a course will still be hugely beneficial.

Consider a one-to-one course that can work flexibly to meet your needs.
